Last updates about Homes4Life project

Homes4Life is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA) funded under Horizon 2020 programme. Its objective is to develop a new European certification scheme for age-friendly living environments. It started in December 2018 and will last for 24 months. Homes4Life gathers 9 partners, among which ECTP, and is coordinated by Tecnalia (Spain).

Age-friendly environments are one of the most effective approaches for responding to demographic ageing and increasing the Healthy Life Year indicator. However, there is still a huge building stock not adapted to the needs of older people. Even today, new buildings don´t yet properly address the need for creating smart living environments for ageing well.
Homes4Life addresses this challenge by contributing to the development of a common European framework for age friendly living environments and defining the Homes4Life certification scheme to tackle end-users’ needs and requirements through a holistic and life-course approach integrating Construction and ICT solutions. The different socio-economic conditions (housing ownership, family structure, health system, etc) and building typologies among the EU member states will be analysed in detail to provide the necessary flexibility to map the Homes4Life certification scheme to the specificities of each country with a user-centric approach. The scope of Homes4Life scheme will cover both new and existing buildings.

Homes4Life consortium has been working for almost a year on the project. Several tasks are currently going on, for example the analysis of existing R&I initiatives and certification schemes, the elaboration of a technical reference framework underpinning the certification scheme, etc.
Homes4Life also organised its 1st Stakeholder Workshop in Brussels on June 11th 2019, which allowed to gather meaningful input for the future work to be carried out within the project (see article here).
In a future phase of the project, one of the missions will be to test the certification scheme developed by the partners. Therefore, the project team is currently looking for demo sites (buildings) for this validation phase. If you want to hear more about it and maybe propose a demo site, do not hesitate to contact the consortium.

Also, if you would like to meet the Homes4Life team, partners of the consortium will present the project during several events in the coming months:

  • 7-10 Oct. 2019,  Brussels (Belgium), European Week of Regions and Cities
  • 10-11 Oct. 2019, Wexford (Ireland), ICSH Biennial National Social Housing Conference 2019
  • 14-15 October 2019, London (UK), 3rd Healthy City Design 2019 International Congress
  • 22 October 2019, Brussels (Belgium), atHOME EU project conference
