In the context of the housing shortage in Europe, innovative and holistic solutions are needed. This event will explore one of these solutions: vertical extension, i.e. adding new floors on top of existing buildings, to provide new housing space in dense urban areas. Vertical extension can also be combined with the renovation of buildings, allowing for a longer and more efficient use of the existing building stock. 

This event will bring together researchers, architects, policymakers, and local authorities’ representatives and together they will look at existing best practices, enabling factors and policies to harness the full potential of vertical extensions.

The event will be followed by a networking reception and the opportunity to see an example of vertical extension.
